Itinerary of the tour to Andalusia and Morocco
Day 1 (Wednesday) BARCELONA – MADRID (by train)
Call at Barcelona “Sants” train station, and departure by high-speed train to Madrid. Enjoy a pleasant and short journey with the comfort and speed of the AVE train. Arrival in Madrid. Transfer to the hotel on your own. Free time at your disposal to discover Madrid, the diplomatic capital, the economic centre, and the most populous city in Spain, where the government is located and the Spanish monarchy resides. We recommend taking a walk through the courtly Madrid of the Austrias with its Renaissance and Baroque buildings at Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, and Plaza de la Villa. Continue to the Royal Palace located in the elegant Plaza de Oriente, visit the Fountain of Cibeles, Fountain of Neptune, Puerta de Alcalá, Gran Vía, or Paseo de la Castellana. Accommodation at the hotel.
Day 2 (Thursday) MADRID – CORDOBA – SEVILLE
Depart from Madrid towards Andalusia, passing through the land of Don Quixote, the Man from La Mancha. Through the natural passage of “Despeñaperros,” we arrive in Andalusia, a region with an enormous heritage from a glorious past. Arrival in Córdoba, the ancient capital of the Caliphate. Accompanied by an expert local guide, we will visit the most outstanding places in Córdoba: the narrow and winding streets of the Jewish Quarter, the synagogue, and the fantastic Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, one of the largest Islamic architectural works in the world, which has been preserved since the time when the Muslims ruled Al-Andalus and will relax our mind and spirit. Free time at your disposal to stroll through the historic centre of Córdoba, with its medieval streets, or visit the Royal Palace “Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos” and its beautiful gardens. In the afternoon, after a short journey, we will arrive in Seville, the capital of Andalusia. Accommodation at the hotel.
Day 3 (Friday) SEVILLE
After breakfast, we will have a monumental and panoramic tour of Seville. We will visit the interior of Seville Cathedral, the second-largest Catholic cathedral in the world after St. Peter’s in Rome, and its famous Giralda, the former minaret of the Arab mosque. Then, we will walk through the popular neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz, the natural setting of “Carmen” as well as the place where the myth of “Don Juan” developed, and also Triana, with a deep popular flavour and the birthplace of bullfighters and artists. After the tour, you will have free time to discover different perspectives and specific flavours of this lively city full of light. How about a boat trip on the Guadalquivir River to enjoy the panoramic views from the boat? Then, you can stroll along the banks of the Guadalquivir River, the “great king of Andalusia” as the poet Luis de Góngora y Argote called it. Accommodation. In the evening, optionally, you can enjoy a flamenco show.
Day 4 (Saturday) SEVILLE – RONDA – COSTA DEL SOL
After breakfast, we travel along the route of the White Villages to Ronda, one of the most beautiful cities in Andalusia. Free time in the historic centre where we will have the opportunity to see the Puente Nuevo (New Bridge) and La Alameda de San Carlos, which will offer magnificent panoramic views of the Ronda Mountains, or visit the museum Casa de San Juan Bosco. Departure towards the Costa del Sol. Arrival at the hotel and accommodation.
Day 5 (Sunday) COSTA DEL SOL – FEZ
After breakfast we’ll drive along the picturesque tourist route of Costa del Sol via internationally renowned places as Marbella and Puerto Banus, arrive to Tarifa or Algeciras where we’ll board on a ferry boat for a short and interesting crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar towards Africa. Arrival to Tangier, disembark, clear customs and continue on by coach to Larache, a picturesque fishing town located on the Atlantic coast, on the left bank of the Lucus River estuary, with white-walled houses and light blue carpentry. You’ll enjoy some free time for lunch. Continue our route to Fez, the oldest of Morocco’s imperial cities and famous for its ancient walled city, which many compare to Jerusalem. Arrival at the hotel. Free time, dinner and accommodation.
Day 6 (Monday) FEZ
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning we’ll do a monumental and panoramic city tour of Fez, to discover the highlights of this wonderful city: we will see the 7 gates of the Royal Palace, the Jewish neighbourhood also known as Mellah, the Gate of Bab Bou Jeloud, which gives access to the Medina or the old city, one of the most impressive of Morocco. We continue with a walk through its grandiose Medina or ancient city, declared a World Heritage Site, we will visit the Medersa, one of the main schools of the Koranic religion in Morocco, its Al Karaouine Mosque, one of the largest architectural complexes in Fez known for housing the oldest university in the world and later we will discover the famous Tanners’ Quarter, with its infinity of holes full of natural dyes that make up a colorful landscape. Free time in the afternoon to enjoy calmly the great and labyrinth Medina de Fes el-Bali, composed by more than 9.000 streets, it’s the best-preserved Medina of the Arab world and the largest monument of Morocco. Dinner and accommodation. In the evening, you have the possibility to enjoy an optional dinner-show in a typical restaurant in the medina.
Day 7 (Tuesday) FEZ – RABAT – MARRAKECH
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Rabat, diplomatic and administrative capital of Morocco, official residence of King Mohamed VI. Accompanied by an expert local guide, we will enjoy a guided tour of Rabat during which we will see, from the outside, the Royal Palace of Rabat (Dar al-Makhzen), the official residence of the king of Morocco, then we will go to the esplanade of Yacoub al-Mansour to discover the Mausoleum of Mohammed Va masterpiece of architecture from the Alawite dynasty, with its white silhouette, crowned by a typical green tile roof. In front of the Mausoleum we will discover the Hassan Tower, a minaret of an incomplete mosque that has become the symbol of the city. We continue the journey south through the Middle Atlas to Marrakech, the city that gave its name to the country, considered the capital of the South that is located within an extensive oasis between the Atlas Mountains and the pre-desert area. Marrakech is a fascinating and mysterious city where Europe, Africa and the Middle East mix and merge. Arrival at the hotel, dinner and accommodation.
Day 8 (Wednesday) MARRAKECH
Breakfast at the hotel. We will start the day with an amazing guided visit of Marrakech. We will see from outside the Koutobia Minaret, twin sister of the Giralda in Seville (Spain), the Bahia Palace, one of the city’s most eye-popping sights, we’ll walk around its Medina and souks and will end at the great Djemaa El Fna Square, a symbol of Morocco and meeting point for different kind of personalities of the city: storytellers, snake charmers, musicians and dancers. The afternoon is at your disposal. We recommend you visiting the impressive Saadian Tombs, or the Musée de Marrakech which exhibits a collection of beautiful Moroccan art, or just walk around the Medina Maze and haggling in Marrakech souks. Your guide may offer you an optional excursion to Marrakech Palm Grove where you can enjoy a camel ride. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel. Optionally you can enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and an equestrian show that includes odalisque, flying carpets and fireworks in an atmosphere that recreates The Thousand and One Nights.
Day 9 (Thursday) MARRAKECH
Breakfast at the hotel. Free day at your disposal to continue exploring the most famous city in Morocco. We recommend visiting the impressive Saadian Tombs, or the Marrakech Museum, which displays a collection of Moroccan fine arts , or simply walk through the maze of alleys in the Medina and haggle in the souks of Marrakech. Definitely a great opportunity to relax and feel the place. Your guide can offer you some optional activities: excursion to the Palm Grove of Marrakech where you can enjoy a camel ride, tour the green valleys in a 4×4 SUV< /strong> and learn about the lifestyle of the surrounding villages that have little to do with life in Marrakech, discover the impressive Ouzoud waterfalls as they tumble down steep cliffs… Or if you feel tired, simply escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and relax by the hotel pool. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 10 (Friday) MARRAKECH – CASABLANCA
After breakfast we’ll drive west towards the Atlantic Coast. Our first stop will be in Casablanca, the largest city that represents the modern face of today’s Morocco. Upon arrival, we will do a sightseeing tour of Casablanca, to discover Casablanca’s highlights such as the Anfa boulevard, the Nations Square, we’ll visit from the outside the impressive Hassan II Mosque (interior visit offered as optional activity), a showcase of the finest Moroccan artisanship, Casablanca’s city landmark, only surpassed by Mecca in importance and size. After the visit we will continue to Corniche Ain Diab, a famous sea resort where we’ll enjoy some free time. Arrival at the hotel, free time at your disposal, dinner and accommodation.
Day 11 (Saturday) CASABLANCA – TANGIER – COSTA DEL SOL
Breakfast at the hotel. We continue alongside the Atlantic Coast to Tangier, the Moroccan capital of the Strait of Gibraltar. Arrival at the port of Tangier to board the ferry to return across the Strait of Gibraltar back to Spain. Drive back to our hotel in Costa del Sol. Free time at your disposal. Accommodation at the hotel.
Day 12 (Sunday) COSTA DEL SOL – GRANADA
Breakfast at the hotel and departure to Granada, with its incredible and amazing monumental environment, the last stronghold of the Moorish Kingdom up to 1492. We’ll visit the world famous Alhambra Palace (Red Palace) and Generalife Gardens. Its fountains, gardens and patios (courtyards) have inspired several authors with their sounds and sights, such as the “Tales of the Alhambra” by Washington Irving. Free time in the afternoon. We recommend you to visit the Cathedral and the Royal Chapel that houses the tombs of the Catholic Monarchs or stroll through the Albaicin neighborhood and enjoy the beautiful views of the Alhambra from the Mirador de San Nicolas. Accommodation at the hotel. Optionally you can see a Gipsy Flamenco Show held in a cave-house at Sacromonte Quarter.
Day 13 (Monday) GRANADA – TOLEDO – MADRID
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive northward where, toward the sky of Castile and surrounded by the Tagus River, it emerges the impressive Imperial City of Toledo – a World Heritage City – where the three cultures Christians, Moorish and Jewish, have lived together in harmony. Resume of the Spanish art, history and spirituality, the whole town of Toledo is a National Monument. We’ll enjoy an in depth city tour of Toledo that includes the most important monuments, its narrow streets and we’ll discover the famous “Damasquinado Art” (gold and silver inlaying in iron). After the visit we’ll continue to Madrid. Arrival and end of our services.
