From Almería: Mojácar White Village & Cabo de Gata Scenic Tour
A Journey Between Volcanoes and White Villages: The Jewel of Almería
Join us on a journey designed for lovers of contrast. Our excursion to Mojacar and Cabo de Gata from Almería is much more than a tour; it is an immersion into the light, geology, and tradition of the most fascinating corner of the Iberian Peninsula. With strategic departures from Almeria and the hotels in El Toyo, we guarantee a day of total relaxation where the landscape takes centre stage.
The Wild Heart of Cabo de Gata
We begin our route by entering the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park. Our first essential stop is the Cabo de Gata Lighthouse, the sentinel guarding the imposing Mermaid’s Reef (Arrecife de las Sirenas). Here, solid magma formations emerging from the sea create one of the most photographed postcards in Spain. We will continue alongside the Salt Pans (Salinas), a biodiversity sanctuary where, with a bit of luck, we can spot pink flamingos in their natural habitat. Before leaving the park, we will stop at Los Escullos. There, we will walk upon fossilized dunes that seem out of this world, right next to the historic San Felipe Castle battery, overlooking cliffs of deep, brilliant blue.
Mojacar: The Balcony of the Levant
We then head north to Mojacar, officially recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain. This hanging village nestled on the mountainside will welcome you with its dazzling architecture of whitewashed houses and flower-filled balconies. In Mojácar, you will have free time for lunch (on your own) and to explore at your leisure. You can visit the Church Square, the Plaza Nueva Viewpoint with its infinite views of the valley, or discover the famous Fountain of the Thirteen Spouts. It is the perfect moment to enjoy local gastronomy or simply get lost in the Moorish charm of its historic centre.
Scenic Coastal Return via Carboneras
To conclude the day, we will begin our return to Almería via one of the most beautiful routes in the Mediterranean. We will travel along the coastal road passing through Carboneras, allowing you to gaze at the marine horizon from the bus before returning to your point of origin.

Cabo de Gata and Mojacar: Almeria’s Perfect Contrast
The coastline of Almería is home to two treasures that, despite their proximity, offer completely opposite sensory experiences: the untamed nature of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park and the Moorish heritage of Mojacar, a town suspended in time.
Cabo de Gata is Andalusia’s first maritime-terrestrial park and one of the ecological jewels of the Western Mediterranean. Its volcanic origin has sculpted a landscape of dramatic contrasts, where dark cliffs plunge into crystal-clear turquoise waters. One of its most iconic landmarks is the Mermaid’s Reef (Arrecife de las Sirenas), ancient volcanic chimneys emerging from the sea in front of the historic lighthouse. But the park is about more than just geology; it is a sanctuary for biodiversity. In the Cabo de Gata Salt Pans, the balance between human industry and nature allows thousands of birds, especially pink flamingos, to find refuge during their migrations. Places like Los Escullos, with fossilized dunes that resemble stone waves, remind us of the power of the elements in this protected space where solitude and light create an almost mystical atmosphere.
A short distance away, the landscape transforms upon reaching Mojacar, a white village that seems to sprout from the foothills of the Sierra de Cabrera. Divided between its beach area and its historic centre perched high on a hill, it is the latter that has earned it the title of one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain. Mojácar is a labyrinth of narrow, steep, whitewashed streets that reveal its Al-Andalus past. Every corner is adorned with pots of bougainvillea and geraniums that contrast sharply with the immaculate white facades.
From the Plaza Nueva Viewpoint, visitors can gaze out over the Valley of the Pyramids and the sea, feeling the breeze that flows across this natural balcony. Its history is woven with legends, such as that of the Indalo, the symbol of Almería originating from nearby caves, or the curious tale of its resistance during the Reconquista. Walking through Mojácar is like stepping back centuries, enjoying a bohemian atmosphere where the tranquillity of the siesta coexists with a gastronomic scene that celebrates the flavours of the sea and the Almerian fertile plains.
Ultimately, visiting Cabo de Gata and Mojácar in a single day is to experience the raw force of a wild land alongside the delicacy of Mediterranean architecture, a combination that defines the unique spirit of Almería.
