Information about how to visit the Alhambra in Granada from Madrid:

The pearl of Andalusia, visit the Alhambra, Generalife and its gardens…

At the feet of Sierra Nevada Mountains, between the rivers Darro and Genil, lies one of the most interesting cities in eastern Andalusia: Granada, founded by the Romans under the name Illiberis. Later, in the 8th century AC., after the invasion of the peninsula by the Muslims, they gave it the actual name of Granada. The Catholic King and Queen reconquered the city in 1492 in order to complete the Reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula for Christianity. Queen Isabel of Castile received Christopher Columbus during the siege of the city and offered him the means to start his voyage to the West Indies.

This troubled history left its footprints in Granada by means of palaces, churches and other buildings that proclaim the rich cultural heritage of Granada. The monumental complex of Alhambra and Generalife, fortress, city and palace of the Nasrid Kings is world famous because of its beauty as of its impressive view offered to the visitors by its privileged situation. Within the complex we can also find the Renaissance Palace built by Emperor Charles V.

In front of the Alhambra on another hill is situated the district Albaicin, a narrow and fascinating maze of little streets where white houses with patios are known as carmenes. Not far from the Albaicin is another emblematic district, Sacromonte. Known because of the caves where one can still enjoy the purest flamenco shows.

The city has one of the largest cultural heritages of the country. Apart from the world-famous Alhambra and the district of Albaicin, called by the UNESCO as Heritage of Humanity, Granada has a Cathedral in Renaissance style, whose construction was started in the sixteenth century and is considered to be the first of Spain in this style. Directly next door lies the Royal Chapel, built as a tomb for and by orders of the Catholic Kings. Many other churches can be found in the city, built by the Moors after the Reconquest, which gave birth to a unique style, known as Mudejar.

Please note that

Exceptionally, the itinerary and the order of the excursions could be altered and modified for organizational reasons. The visit may be done with a bilingual guide in Spanish and English.

For those who want to enjoy an exclusive visit to the Alhambra, we recommend improving your experience by booking a private visit to the Alhambra from Madrid. Your private guide will design a personalized tour through the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra so that you will not miss a thing from this unique enclave, which was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
