Our journey begins in the morning, departing from our bus terminal in Almeria (see Google Maps location) and heading toward the heart of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park, with a brief stop to pick up guests staying in El Toyo. Throughout the daytrip to Cabo de Gata, a member of our expert team will accompany you, revealing the secrets, history, and fascinating facts behind every corner of this protected paradise, ensuring a truly immersive experience for all the senses.

We start our route by taking in the breathtaking views of the Arrecife de las Sirenas (Mermaid’s Reef) and the iconic Cabo de Gata Lighthouse. Our next stop brings us to the Cabo de Gata Salt Pans, a vital sanctuary where biodiversity thrives and pink flamingos are the stars of the landscape. The itinerary continues through wild volcanic formations of extraordinary beauty. We will pause to explore gems such as the fossilized dunes next to the Castle of Los Escullos and the charming fishing village of La Isleta del Moro, guarded by the silhouette of the Cerro del Fraile Volcano. We will also enjoy panoramic coastal views from the Amatistas Viewpoint and delve into the region’s industrial heritage in the mining valley of Rodalquilar.

By midday, we reach San Jose, a picturesque village of white-washed houses. Here, you will have free time to enjoy lunch (on your own) or relax on the local beaches. If you visit us during the summer, don’t forget your swimsuit and towel for a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear Mediterranean waters. Finally, we will return by bus to Almería.

Information about Cabo de Gata:

Cabo de Gata: Where the Mountains Meet the Sea

Immerse yourself in a full day of wonder within the magnificent Cabo de Gata Natural Park. Discover its unique flora and fauna, and behold the unparalleled coastal views where rugged mountain ranges collide with the deep blue Mediterranean.

Cabo de Gata is a legendary landmark of the Southeastern Iberian Peninsula. It marks the edge of a volcanic mountain range that borders the plains of Almería and the fields of Níjar. This coastline is defined by dramatic cliffs and hidden coves that have served as sanctuaries for sailors for centuries—or as ambush points during the era of Mediterranean piracy. This history of pirates and privateers prevented permanent settlements for ages, a fact that has helped preserve this pristine wilderness to this day. While the greatest variety of birdlife gathers in the summer, any season is perfect for spotting avocets, stilts, herons, gulls, ducks, and, most famously, the iconic pink flamingos.

La Isleta del Moro is a charming fishing and tourism hamlet nestled next to a colossal rock and the small island that gives it its name. Legend has it that the Berber leader Mohamed Arráez was the one who named this spot, which was once a frequent haunt for pirates in search of hidden treasure. Today, it remains a cluster of traditional white houses where locals have dedicated themselves to the sea since time immemorial.

San José, originally a humble fishing village in the Bay of San José, has evolved into the vibrant heart of the Natural Park. It has successfully traded its fishing roots for a sustainable and elegant tourism model that respects the local aesthetic. From here, you can access Los Genoveses and Mónsul, widely considered the most spectacular virgin beaches in the entire Mediterranean.

Rodalquilar is a fascinating former gold-mining village situated in a valley of unusual beauty, enclosed in a natural circle by mineral-rich hills. Now a peaceful sanctuary within the Park, the ruins of the ancient miners’ quarters stand alongside beautifully rehabilitated homes, offering a hauntingly beautiful glimpse into the past.

Cabo de Gata is a singular natural space, unique in Europe, where the play of light and contrasting landscapes leave a lasting impression on all who visit. Boasting one of the most ecologically rich and beautiful coastlines in the Western Mediterranean, it is truly one of the natural jewels of Almería, Andalusia, and all of Spain.

Experience a landscape where magic and solitude intertwine!
